Certification of Eligibility
National and State Historic Registers of Historic Places
On March 12, 2024, we received notification that the Orchard Street Gatehouse is certified by the New Jersey State Historical Preservation office. This is something that we have been working towards for several years now and after working towards this goal on our own and not being successful, we contracted with Connolly and Hickey Historical Architects to make this a reality. With the help of the team at Connolly and Hickey, we are now certified as eligible for individual listing on the National and State Registers of Historic Places. We are submitting for grants from the Morris County Historic Preservation Trust Fund to aid us in getting the listing complete as well as to fund a Historic Preservation Plan so that we can move on to the next step - restoration of the Gatehouse. The Gatehouse will be 150 years old in 2025 so this will be a fitting time to get this done!
As of February 28, 2025, both of our grants are in for final approval to the Morris County Historic Preservation Trust Fund. Once approved, our paperwork for historic recognition will go to the New Jersey State Historical Preservation office. Hopefully in a few short weeks, we will be official recognized on the State and National Historic registers.
